  • Africa’s food systems need to be reimagined – CALA forum to chart ways forward | AMI

Back to News News Africa Africa’s food systems need to be reimagined – CALA forum to chart ways forward 5 Sept 2022 Food and agriculture leaders from across Africa are gathered in Rwanda today to advance action for food systems transformation on the continent. The two-day forum themed Collaborative Leadership: Advancing African Food Systems, is organised by the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) , an AGRA-led initiative, and will see over 200 of Africa’s leading and emerging agriculture leaders convene for a series of workshops, panel discussions and networking sessions designed to provoke collaborative action towards the most pressing food system issues facing the continent today. The forum is the first in-person gathering of CALA’s participants in the Centre’s young history. The second cohort of 80 food systems leaders will be unveiled officially. During the event the delegates will issue a call to action for greater collaboration among sector leaders on advancing African food systems. Among the key speakers were H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, AGRA Board Chair and former Prime Minister for Ethiopia, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of AGRA, and Rebecca Harrison, CEO of African Management Institute (AMI). “Realising the collective expertise and energy of these distinguished leaders from AGRA’s Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture gathered here today, this is really our moment to seize to work together towards deeper integration of our food systems, and to take critical steps towards achieving zero hunger”, said H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn. Selected from over 1,000 applicants, the 80 new CALA delegates represent the continent’s most dynamic leaders in agriculture, with 45% of them drawn from government agencies across the eight countries, 26% from the private sector and 29% from civil society. “These illustrious CALA cohorts of 160 leaders from eight countries have distinguished themselves in delivering on food systems transformation priorities across government, private sector and civil society. In the aftermath of COVID-19, we have a unique opportunity to re-imagine and build more resilient food systems. We look forward to the rest of this decade of action working with you all to meet our sector priorities with the eight harvests we now have left,” said Dr. Kalibata. Designed for rising stars and established executives from across Africa’s agriculture sector in government, the private sector and civil society, CALA’s Advanced Leadership Programme is the continent’s premier leadership programme tailored to support leaders to advance sustainable agriculture sector priorities. The highly competitive programme is a 16-month learning journey that emphasises collaborative and practical experience and is focused on advancing leaders’ professional skills as they contribute to delivery of flagship programmes on food systems transformation. An AGRA-led initiative, CALA is delivered in collaboration with implementing partners, including AMI, CALA’s lead implementation and learning partner, and USAID’s Policy LINK. Policy LINK has led the design and rollout of the leadership programme’s coaching component. “As a leader, being a catalyst for change and transformation is difficult work, even for the most seasoned professional. AMI’s leadership learning journey within CALA’s programmes, focuses on enhancing leaders’ collaborative leadership styles and providing practical, hands-on learning experiences for senior and emerging African leaders in agriculture,” said Rebecca Harrison, CEO and Co-Founder of AMI. “This in-person event is a milestone for the CALA program and the committed leaders at its core,” said Policy LINK Chief of Party Steve Smith. “As we forge new connections in Rwanda over the next two days, may they also strengthen our common cause — transforming food systems for the benefit of the entire region and its people.” The two-day leadership forum comes at a time when the world is facing a crippling food crisis with countries in Africa among the most affected. It is focused on enabling leaders to deliver on their commitments to food security by emphasising the role of collaboration and adaptive leadership in advancing Africa’s food systems. However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorised third parties will not be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information and User Content for improper purposes. You acknowledge that you provide your personal information at your own risk . We reserve the right to terminate your registration at any time if we believe in our sole discretion that you have breached any of these Terms. You unconditionally and irrevocably waive any and all moral rights you may have either now or in the future existing in or in connection with the Online Communities, Content and Courses or the Sites. You agree to sign and provide all such deeds, documents, acts and things as we may reasonably require in order to assign any Online Communities, Content and Courses or AMI Intellectual Property Rights to us, to carry out the intended purpose of these TOS, or to establish, perfect, preserve or enforce our rights under these Terms. You must not modify, copy, reproduce, republish, or display any content from the Sites and represent it as your own (including by framing pages from the Site), upload to a third party, post, transmit or distribute this content in any way except as permitted by law or expressly provided for on the Site or expressly authorised in writing by us and, where relevant, any third party owner or rights holder. The burden of determining that your use of any information, software or any other content on the Site is permissible rests with you. PRIVACY POLICY We respect your right to privacy. You acknowledge that by using the Site you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of certain information as set out in our Privacy Policy. PROGRAMMES, ONLINE COURSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS The Sites will, from time to time, offer online programmes and courses in a specific area of study or on a particular topic or range of topics (a “Programme” or an “Online Course”). AMI reserves the right to cancel, interrupt or reschedule any Programmes or Online Course or modify its content as well as the point value or weight of any assignment, exam or other evaluation of progress. Programmes and Online Courses offered are subject to the Disclaimer of Warranties / Limitation of Liabilities section below. Subject to your satisfactory completion of an AMI Programme or Course as determined by us in our sole discretion, you may be awarded a statement acknowledging your completion of the AMI Programme or Course (Certificate of Completion). You acknowledge and agree that a Certificate of Completion does not convey any academic credit or entitle you to any recognition of prior learning. A Certificate of Completion is not equivalent to any award or qualification that might be awarded by an Education Provider. The content of a Certificate of Completion will be determined by us, in our sole discretion, and may change from time to time and from programme to programme, or course to course. Further, AMI retains the right to offer or not offer any such Certificate of Completion. You acknowledge that neither the Facilitators or Instructors of any Programme or Online Course nor the associated Partner Institutions will be involved in any attempts to get the programme or course recognised by any educational or accredited institution, unless explicitly stated otherwise by AMI. The format of the Certificate of Completion will be determined at the discretion of AMI and the instructors, and may vary by Programme or Course in terms of formatting, e.g., whether or not it reports your detailed scores or grades, and in other ways. FEES AND PAYMENT TERMS Although AMI has a range of Online Courses that may be available from time to time for free, most Programmes or Online Courses require an enrolment or registration fee. Unless otherwise stated, all fees are quoted in U.S. Dollars. You are responsible for paying all fees and applicable taxes associated in a timely manner with a payment accepted by the Sites, unless you have made arrangements with AMI in writing to make an alternative payment. If your payment method fails we may collect fees using other collection mechanisms. AMI reserves the right to change the fees at any time in its sole discretion. Any change, update, or modification will be effective immediately upon posting on our Sites. Any fees, and applicable payment charges will be displayed on the AMI sites and/or during the course of your transaction. Until you have confirmed the final amount and submitted your payment, you will be able to cancel the transaction at any time. In addition, the processing of your payment information is done by an AMI third party vendor, and you will be re-routed to a secure website to complete the payment transaction. The privacy statement posted at the payment landing page operated by such third party vendor will govern the submission and processing of your payment details. Please familiarise yourself with those terms prior to initiating a transaction. Once your payment transaction is completed, you will be re-routed back to an AMI confirmation page and will receive a confirmation email with your name, order number and the payment amount. Please retain this email for your records as this information will be required if you seek a refund from AMI, as described below. REFUND POLICY For a period of fourteen (14) calendar days from the purchase date (“Cooling Off Period”), you may withdraw or un-enroll from an Online Course by clicking on the un-enroll link on the My Courses dashboard and request a refund by emailing support@africanmanagers.com . Please include your full name and order number in your email request. Refunds will be credited to the account used when you made the initial payment and may take up to two billing cycles to process. • AMI and Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA) establish a strategic partnership to boost the energy sector | AMI

Back to News News Uganda AMI and Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA) establish a strategic partnership to boost the energy sector 19 Sept 2024 Uganda’s solar industry leaders, managers, and workforce are getting a boost of energy as a result of a new partnership announced today between the African Management Institute (AMI) and the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA). Made possible by the Energy Access Talent Initiative (EATI) Programme funded by UKAID, this partnership will equip leaders and managers within the clean energy sector across Africa with the essential skills and tools to drive growth in their companies, as a result increasing energy access for Ugandans. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to building the capacity of leaders in high-growth sectors such as clean energy,” Alvin Katto, Country Manager, AMI Uganda. “By empowering managers with practical skills, we are supporting the expansion of energy access and driving meaningful, lasting change in Uganda’s energy landscape.” Professor Robinah Nanyunja, CEO at USEA, added, “We’re excited to offer our members this valuable opportunity for professional development. The skills gained through this programme will undoubtedly accelerate the growth of Uganda’s solar energy sector.” As part of this initiative, USEA members will gain exclusive access to AMI’s Empowering Managers Programme, a practical and results-focused training designed to enhance management capabilities in the clean energy sector. The programme is tailored to address the unique challenges faced by sector professionals, including effective team supervision, project management, and strategies to manage geographically dispersed teams. The African Management Institute (AMI) enables ambitious businesses across Africa to thrive, through practical tools and training. AMI’s practical and experience-driven learning approach, supports individuals to improve performance and develop essential winning behaviors and practices. This methodology encourages learning from data, feedback, live experiences, and implementation, ultimately propelling organizational success. USEA is the leading organization for Uganda’s solar energy industry, promoting the adoption of solar technologies and striving to expand access to clean, sustainable, and affordable energy across the country. By strengthening leadership within the clean energy sector, this partnership plays a critical role in advancing sustainable energy solutions, improving livelihoods, creating jobs, and fostering green economic opportunities in Uganda. Participants of the programme will receive subsidised pricing, making it more accessible to USEA’s membership base. This partnership follows a number of initiatives driven by the Government of Uganda to promote renewable energy projects through various financial and regulatory incentives, aligned with the 2023 Energy Policy. One such is the cut on taxes for importing renewable energy products like solar panels, inverters, batteries and wind turbines among others. In addition, through the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company (UECCC), a number of credit support instruments have been offered to renewable energy companies to increase clean energy adoption by the Government of Uganda. USEA members can start enrolling in the Empowering Managers Programme this September. For more information, please visit https://africanmanagers.com/empowering-managers-uganda/

That’s what makes AMI stand out. The facilitators and participants bring local insights into every discussion, ensuring that feedback and guidance are relevant and practical. This has made me more likely to recommend AMI. As an admin at Workpay, I also appreciated their excellent customer service.
